WARHORSE
Zechariah 10:3
For the Lord Almighty has arrived to look after his flock of Judah. He will make them strong and glorious, like a proud warhorse in battle.
God, you have called me to be a mighty warhorse. Is it for such a time as this that you evolve me from this normal state to a courageous warhorse?
You made me a lamb, but now, you are calling me to be a warhorse. What is a warhorse? I am not accustomed to this purpose. There is a change in my body, build, and covering. I am taller in this form. I can see above the fold. I am sleeker. My coat no longer needs to be sheared. I carry mighty people in this role. I gallop into danger. I carry supplies needed for survival. I am trained in battle tactics. Is this what you want me to be right now God?
WARHORSE
Above the flock now—
I gallop with dignity.
I am no longer with the fold.
I can see beyond the horizon.
Taller than before, I lead mighty men to wars of purpose and passion.
I am trained, trained in battle tactics.
My coat, once resembling a winter blanket, is sleek.
I have been sheared of my baggage.
I can run and feel the breeze brush against my form.
It no longer takes me weeks to make a journey.
I can make a trip in several hours.
No longer shielded from the dangers in the valleys,
I am in the midst of bloody wars.
Carrying supplies needed for survival,
My muscles support more than men’s lives.
I climb rocks with sturdy feet.
My legs once fragile and shaking are strong and able.
I am a warhorse.
You called me, God, from this feeble state.
From the one being led to the one leading others.
You trained me. You are the mighty general.
I die and give my service to you, the almighty commander.
